Being far from home, presenting this show in Aotearoa has been my major challenge so far. If you want to know more about Habbuk and Animalismo Teatro, please have a read below.
From 2017 to 2021, I co-directed and worked as a producer for the Uruguayan-based theatre company Animalismo Teatro, which presented Habbuk in Aotearoa in 2021. Habbuk received four nominations, including Best of Fringe 2021 and won Best Momentus Movement at the New Zealand Fringe Festival Awards.
The world is in chaos. Two people must create their own fantasy world to deal with the challenges around them and begin to accept a new way of life. Emma and Gushma must traverse a world transformed by chaos, finding shelter in the complicity of their love. Speaking an invented and universal language that everyone can understand, Emma and Gushma make their own world of fantasy to sidestep the more difficult circumstances, traversing a path of transformation and acceptance that will lead them to a new everyday life.
After touring in Uruguay and Montréal, Canada, Habbuk had its New Zealand premiere at BATS in March for Wellington Fringe Festival. Habbuk received four nominations, including Best of Fringe 2021 and won Best Momentus Movement at the New Zealand Fringe Festival Awards.
